Ice Cream!

This is a presentation my group and I made about Ice cream, today we made themed icecream. The theme was BREAKFAST. I think we did relatively good on this but I honestly would have liked making something sweet like chocolate or mint ice cream, I could try at home and you can too. Hope you enjoy!

Wolf Poem

This is a wolf poem for my 20 minutes of free writing to my blog. Hope you enjoy!
Image result for Lonely wolf

She walks alone, no family or friends
With a broken heart that nobody can mend.
Her paws make prints in the soft brown soil
With the hate and sorrow in her body set boil

Making a good situation out of what has happened
is far more difficult than anyone could ever imagine.
Her family and friends no longer walk this path
For they long since passed to the poachers bloodthirsty wrath.

Human beings will soon be our end
This is a fate that us wolves cannot bend.
What have we done to deserve this?

All we have done is survive to pass on our legacy
But you humans give us no chance, you are now our enemies.
There is still hope for forgiveness
But know now that we are not fearless.

We are more alike than you think...

The dark forest

This is my monday 20 minutes of free writing. Hope you enjoy! I had ALOT of ideas for this writing so its quite long.

It will come for me. It will come for me. Roy hyperventilated, twisting and turning as everything was appearing differently, the beautiful flowers fading away, Grayson was still in the den with the elders. "Grayson." He whimpered, tail tucked between his legs. How do I leave?! He whimpered into his thoughts, hastily shutting his eye. Grayson entered Roys mind. Stay calm Roy! Grayson insisted urgently. I can't! Roy whimpered, his ears pinned to his skull. It will come. It will listen. I need to leave! He cried out, clenching his jaw.You must stay calm! You don't understand! Grayson called out, his voice becoming more distant. Darkness locked around Roy, nothing was in this area apart from tall dark trees, slightly tainted a deep red. "Hello Roy" an devilish chuckle sounded around Roy. The ground was dry and dead plants were appearing where the once beautiful blue flowers were. Roy shuddered, his fur standing on edge as his eyes widened with fear. Rapidly looking around for the source of the frightening voice. "Who are you! How do you know my name!" Roy cried, his tail tucked firmly between his legs as he continually backed in tight circles."we know all" the voice echoed around Roy. "Grayson cannot find you here young one" laughed another. "Where am I!" Roy cried, "I-I need Gray!" He shuddered, his eyes glancing briefly down to the dead vegetation around him."You don't need him" spoke a female voice. "And he won't need you either" growled a male."I do need him!" He quickly stated, his head continually twisting as he searched for the voices. "I don't believe you." He hastily spoke, shaking his head."Roy!" Called Grayson, his voice distant and quiet behind all of the mingled voices. "Run!" Called another female, sounding desperate and also distant. Roy flattened his ears further. His fur standing on edge as he forced himself to twist away from the landscape and took off as fast as he could. Panting heavily as he kicked up the dirt behind him, fear filling his eyes. A small female blocked his path, she seemed strangely familiar. "Help me Roy!" she whimpered desperately. "I can't get out!" She cried. Her voice seemed familiar too but it was too dark to see her features. Roy skid to a stop before he could accidentally run into the wolf. He wanted to help the wolf, but... he didn't know where he was and trusted Gray's words. His frame tensed, hesitating to leave the familiar sounding wolf behind."Please Roy! Don't leave me here!" She sobbed. Roy hastily stepped back, hyperventilating as he stared wide eyed to the wolf. His chest hurting from the pain of needing to run, but he couldn't get his legs to move an inch."Roy" the voices were becoming louder again as they caught back up to Roy. "Roy!" Called Grayson, still sounding distant but closer than before."Gray!" Roy called out, his limbs trembling as he couldn't tear his eye from the wolf."Roy hurry!" Called Grayson as the voices began to overwhelm grays voice. "Your going to be here forever." Spoke a voice. "You can never leave us!" Your ours now..." evil laughs erupted around Roy and the she-wolf. Roys paws extending outward as he ran faster than he'd ever done before. "Roy!" Screamed the she-wolf, running after him but tripping over a root that had emerged from the ground, wrapping itself around her paw and dragging her backwards, her cry's and screams for help fading into nothingness. It is my fault. It is all my fault! Roy cried, tears streaming down his face as he kept going. He desperately wanted to help her. To help them all. But his timidness allowed them to perish, All my fault! He yelled at himself. "Roy hurry!" called Grayson, sounding much closer. he stood at the edge of the dark red forest, outside the forest there was nothing. A desert of darkness. Roots pushed out of the ground behind Roy, trying to grasp his legs and pull him back but missing by inches. Roy yelped as he felt something grabbing at his paws as he ran, panting heavily as he didn't stop, pushing himself to run faster despite nearing the forest's edge. Happiness filling his eye at the sight of Gray."Roy!" Grayson ran towards him wrapping himself around him and closing himself around Roys mind. Be calm, be calm, be calm... he repeated into his head softly. Your going to be ok, I promise, I promise, I promise... he whispered into Roys mind. his eyes were brimmed with tears, he had almost lost Roy. You will be ok now Roy...

A bit of dialoge here, Roy and Grayson are mates (Both males, dont criticize). Roy and Grayson were visiting their elders in the spirit relm and Roy learnt something he had been searching the answer for for ages. And he began to loose his calm and relaxed dimenour that they all needed in order to stay inside the spirit relm. So then he ended up being overwhelmed by evil spirits in a different relm.

Story

This week I have been doing my own writing about my own fantasy characters, they are wolves of course (my favourite animals).
_______________________________________________________________________________
Jacques perspective:
she had been traveling for so long, her paws ached and her fur itched but she couldn't stop now, she was so close to her father's pack territory, that's the only place that she and the pups were safe, who knew, maybe those wolves were following them... hopefully Ayla had made a good excuse. She padded up the nearby hill, knowing that at the top she would be able to see the lake. The pups followed close behind her as she quickened her pace, Almost there… she told herself as she stopped and looked out at the lake at the top of the hill, the wind brushed against her paws and the pups underbellies. Jacque tasted the air and listened to the lapping of waves on the shore. The gray water was flooded with color as the sun rose higher over the hills. It stretched ahead so far that the trees on the distant shore were nothing more than a greenish blur, and curved around the marshy land in front of them. Jacque let her gaze shift towards the pups who were now standing beside her in a group, saw that most of their eyes still gleamed with excitement, all apart from Lunar. Her eyes held the emotion of sorrow and fright, Jacque wanted to ask what was wrong and parted her jaws to speak, but before she could talk one of the pups cut her off. “Are we there yet?! Are we there yet?! Are the there yet?!” Kayan squealed and bounded around in a circle. She sighed and silenced the pup with a flick of her tail across the pups back. “Almost.” Jacque touched her nose to the flank of the pup, gently rasping a sandpaper like tongue across Kayans back. It was obvious the pups were about to explode with excitement, still Lunar seemed worried, but Jacque brushed it off, she was probably just frightened of the vast lake at the foot of the hill, it was different to anything these pups had ever seen before, the only water they got was from the river that trickled down the Baer Bluffs where they had lived before that wretched pack had ruined everything. Suddenly a thought popped into her mind, What would the pack have done to her if they found out she lied? She began to get lost in thoughts about her friend and if she was safe after she had given her the pups so they wouldn't be taken away… What if they DID find out?! What if they killed her?!?! What if- “Jacque! Can we go? Can we go? Can we go?!” Colhe squeaked as he jumped up. “I miss mother” Lunar whined softly. Jacque slowly shook her head. “I promise you will see her again” she said gently as she rasped her tongue over Lunars flattened ears affectionately. “Lets goooooo!!” Colhe began bounding down the hill as Jacque ran after him, Lunar, Atlas, Kayan and Alistar followed closely behind, squealing with excitement.

I loved writing this, and I'm thinking of making a small chapter book about it on google docs! try inferring what has happened in the past for these wolves and whats going on, ill comment back if your right or wrong, also tell me if this is would be a good book? Happy blogging!

Why are rivers important

This year Kawakawa Primary has been learning a lot about rivers and why they are important, so that was our writing focus. Enjoy!

Why are rivers important?
Rivers are important to a lot of things, but no one seems to realise it, and no one's going to realise
it until it's too late and all the rivers are polluted and gone. Rivers are natural watercourses with fresh
water (mostly) and flows into lakes and streams and the ocean. Without rivers we wouldn't be able
to do a variety of activities and some animals will go extinct without rivers. They also provide us food
and fresh water.

Rivers are important because without them we would not be able to do a range of activities,
including; Kayaking, Canoeing, Swimming, Boating and fishing. A popular thing to do in rivers is
kayaking and swimming, if we didn't have rivers then we would only be able to kayak in them, nor
would we be able to swim or fish in them. 62% of new zealand's rivers are unsafe to swim in due
to pollution.

Rivers are a habitat for animals. Animals like Eels/Tuna, Dragonfly, Crabs, Ducks and more animals
live in the rivers. If the rivers become polluted where would they go? They wouldn't be able to stay in
rivers or around them because of the awful smells and the bad water. 72% of New Zealand's fish
are threatened with extinction in our rivers.

Rivers are providers. They give us food when we take the time to go fishing, you could catch a
variety of things, like fish, tuna, eels, ect. They provide us with fresh water to drink and watering
crops. River water is important to a lot of people who can't afford to pay the water bills and people
who live far away from towns.

44% of New Zealand's rivers are already polluted and are trying to be fixed but its going to take a
long time and if we don't do anything to fix it then it's going to end up impossible to fix and no one
will be able to fix it anymore. If everyone can start thinking about what's going to happen to our
rivers and waterways then maybe they won't all become polluted.

Follow my blog and tell your friends about it if you enjoyed! Happy blogging!

Polar bears

Ursus maritimus, the scientific name for a polar bear. They are from the bear family which has __
species including, Brown bear, Black bear, Giant panda and more. The polar bear, unlike any other
bears are located in extremely cold areas.

Appearance
Polar bears are known to have white fur to blend in with the snow and ice that surrounds them.
They have longer necks than other bears and narrow heads. They have large paws so they are able
to swim quicker through the water. The average male polar bear weighs 450 kg whereas the female
polar bear weighs about 150 – 250 kg. A female polar bears height is at 2 meters when they are on their
hind legs and a male's height is at 1.3 meters to their shoulders.

Habitat
Polar bears are located in places that are around the arctic circle, including, Norway, Russia,
Greenland, Canada, The United States as in, Alaska and the Arctic Circle itself. Polar bears prefer
being on the annual sea ice covering, as there is a good amount of seals to feed on. The problem with
this is that its melting away due to global warming, which is causing the polar bear population to
decrease.

Behaviour
A female polar bear eats a lot of food in summer and fall so she can survive the denning period, the
denning period, most den’s are dug on land where the snow is thick (denning is when a pregnant
female polar bear digs a hole and gives birth in it, she stays in it for 3 months) The season of the
denning is usually in Autumn, it may seem like a hibernation but unlike other bears polar bears don't
hibernate, they don't get a drop in heart rate or anything that signals a hibernation. The female polar
bear will give birth to a cub, sometimes two, that weighs one pound. Once the cub/s weigh 20 or 30
pounds the mother will take them out into the wild and then after 2 years the mother will leave her
cub/s. A polar bear has one of the lowest reproductive rates as, In one lifetime a female polar bear can
only produce 5 litters of cubs.

Diet
Polar bears will travel extremely large distances when the prey is scarce, a polar bears diet consists
mainly of seals but when none are found they will scavenge on, walrus, beluga whale and bowhead
whale carcasses. They also sometimes eat bird’s egg’s, and very very rarely they will eat vegetation.

Polar bears are very quickly becoming extinct, so quickly that no one is having any time to think about
what's happening with global warming, did you know that half of the reason global warming is getting worse
is because of us? With less and less trees the world has less oxygen which is causing the ice to melt,
where are polar bears going to go when it's all gone?

Reflection...
I enjoyed making this because I like writing about animals and bringing awareness to the people who may not know about what is happening to the polar bears, our goal was to write a good piece of writing that explains everything you would need to know about the animal. I think I achieved that goal

Rubbish

Rubbish is the predator that's killing most of our underwater life and causing the dolphins to be
endangered. It may not seem like much when you have it in the palm of your hand but if you fail to
bring it to the rubbish bin it could become the reason for an animals death. Even when you do put it in the
bin it seems to go nowhere better, I encourage you to try and use as little plastic as possible. The rubbish
that gets put in the bin mostly goes to a landfill. Maybe if this continues then underneath our feet will
always be a pile of rubbish underground.

Firstly rubbish is killing our ocean wildlife. Turtles may mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, dolphins may
mistake a chip packet for a fish, and its not only our ocean wildlife,Our beaches are also being hurt by
rubbish being washed up on the beach from the ocean. One day maybe all of our beaches and under
the earth we stand on will be rubbish, what will the world do by the time that there is no more room for
more landfills?

Secondly, Our beaches and our grassy fields and forests are also being hurt by rubbish, for beaches
the rubbish is being washed up on the beach from the ocean. Our land is just being dug up so that
trucks full of rubbish can come and dump it in them. One day maybe all of our beaches and under
the earth we stand on will be rubbish, what will the world do by the time that there is no more room
for more landfills?

lastly it's also killing our land animals. Not only our ocean wildlife are being harmed by rubbish, our
native birds are eating it and dying, plastic doesn't help them survive possums and other threats that
the world has for them, so why do we need to make it worse for them? Our native birds and animals
need to be able to feel at least a little bit safe in their homes.

Each year we use more and more rubbish so each year more and more landfills will need to be
created, more and more rubbish will fly away into the ocean and more and more of our beaches will
end up being polluted and unable to be explored. Help stop this beautiful world we live in become one
big city and landfill.

Reflection : I like this project but I have been writing the same things for a long long time and its getting
sort of boring
What I found easy : Writing the main thing because I have written about it heaps
What I found hard : Trying to find NEW ideas

Kawakawa Primary Marae

The importance of our Marae

I think the Kawakawa Primary Marae is important, The Marae has been up for
over 5 years and it's still looking amazing today. Everytime we sing every morning
in there we are singing to our ancestors which is respecting them, the Marae is a
memory of all the people who have been at this school, they were staff members
or students or anyone who was related to the school who has passed away have
their photos up there. Singing for them is a way of respecting their memory. It
represents us.

The Marae is an old building of Kawakawa primary, it's been standing for over 8
years. If you were to look back in google maps at photos of kawakawa primary
you would see the photo of the school had been taken in 2013, therefor proving
the marae has been up for over 5 years at least. Photos of our schools staff
members or students that had passed away have been put up in the marae in their
memory for respect, as we sing every morning for them, respecting them and
keeping their memory alive.

Our Marae is important because it represents us in a way, Powhiris are up when a
new student comes to the school, they are welcomed with a haka (usually), some
songs and mihi. The songs we sing in the Marae represent us, the Mihi represents
our school, and so on so on. Our school is special with the Marae, it keeps our
school alive and it keeps the memories of our ancestors alive.

In conclusion I think our Marae is very important to our school. It represents our school,
it's a home for our ancestors keeping their memory alive and it's been a part of
Kawakawa primary for over 8 years.

What I found easy: I think it was easy to get the good ideas about our marae
What I found hard: I'm more used to argument writing so it was a little more difficult just explaining it all.
What I enjoyed: Just sitting and writing 😁
Reflection: This writing was sort of difficult but easy to finish quickly, for once I got this done in the correct time frame! That's sort of new to me I guess.

🌊Sharks paragraph🦈

Sharks

Sharks can be found in most oceans such as,  Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic and Southern oceans, but they do not swim in the Antarctic because the water is too cold. They can also be found in lakes that don't have salt water and some rivers. There are around 250 species of sharks including, great white, tiger shark, bull shark, whale shark, nurse shark, hammerhead and many many more. Most sharks have a light grey back and white belly, they have a sleek shape letting them get through the water quickly, they can be identified by their dorsal fin, they have 2 rows of sharp teeth and they have large round eyes, with a sharks good eyes they allow them to see colour at different levels of light. Like cats they have a mirror like layer in the back of their eyes which is called tapetum lucidum giving them amazing eyesight. It is said that sharks can smell a single drop of blood from miles away, however it is known for sure that sharks have much better sense of smell than humans. Most sharks eat small fish and invertebrates (invertebrates are an animal lacking a backbone) bigger sharks will eat seals, sea lions and other water animals. Sharks only eat humans when they are confused or curious, they pretty much take a bite of a human and then spit it back out in disgust, they wouldn't eat a full human on purpose.

What we learnt: We were learning to make a good paragraph and put our ideas in order
What I enjoyed: writing everything down in the paragraph
What was difficult: putting the facts into the right orders
Reflection: This was fun and easy, I like writing so it was fun to write

What I enjoyed : Creating the presentation
What was difficult : finding extra reasons
Reflection : this was relatively easy because all we had to do was make an attractive google drawing with the do's and don'ts with your chromebook.

🐱 I am poem 🦊

I Am Poem
I am Malia
I am reserved and caring
I wonder what my future will be like
I hear horses hooves hitting the ground
I see a field of green
I want happiness
I am Malia

I am Malia
I pretend I live in a land without violence
I feel a dragons warm fiery breath
I touch the clouds in the sky
I worry about my family getting hurt
I cry when something important slips away
I am Malia

I am Malia
I understand nothing is easy
I say there is good in everyone, you just got to look harder
I dream about the past
I try to help as much as I can
I hope I can make a difference to the world

I am Malia.
