For English a couple of days ago we watched a film titled; The Rabbit Proof Fence.
The film was about three girls that were taken from their family during the time of the stolen generations. This time was focused on Australia where aboriginal kids were taken away from their families and given to white families to breed out their aboriginal genes. The three girls named Gracie, Molly and Daisy ran away from the place they were taken to and travelled uninhabitable land and rough terrain to return to their home in Jigalong.
I admired these girls courage and determination to get back home, how smart they were with avoiding the authorities and going against the law purely to return to their true families. I really liked the film, as it told a true story of these girls escape mission and was really meaningful.
I am a student at Bay of Islands College in Kawakawa, New Zealand. This is a place where I share my learning.

Film Term 3
Yesterday we began our topic on Film in our English Class. We were required to write a glossary on cinematic techniques.
While we were doing this I learn't about two cinematic techniques, diegetic sound and Non diegetic sound. These are the sounds that come from films, diegetic sounds being those that are being filmed on set and aren't recorded in a studio.
Non diegetic sounds are those that aren't recorded on set and are recorded on set.

The Return To School's
As the entirety of New Zealand are moving into level two and schools are going to kick off again on Monday we have been required to write about what our opinions are on the matter.
My family and I believe that school is unsafe as of now because of the remaining risk that someone in the school might have it, with the virus able to be hidden in your body (not showing symptoms) for up to two weeks and spread. Despite the social distancing the government has said that social gatherings of up to ten people are dangerous, there will be over 100 students returning to schools so it sort of contradicts the previous said statement. I don't think it should be necessary for students to return if they don't want to.
That being said I will be one of the few that don't come back to school until its all settled down more.

The Government
What would I change about the Government if given the chance, and why?
There is no such thing as 'perfect government.' As everybody in the world has flaws, including those in the government. But that doesn't alter the fact that there would be plenty of things most people would want to change about the government and their ways.
If I were given the chance to, I'd change how they are reacting towards some of the worlds latest issues. These issues being; Climate Change, Littering and Pollution in both our oceans, waterways, the air we breathe and the earth under our feet. I've not seen enough being done in the way of changing things to help with this problem. Things like single use plastics are all too common, occasionally you'll find the government have found replacements for these but you'll still often encounter one flying down a street in the wind or floating in the ocean carried by the tides, snagging up our precious sea life and suffocating them.
It'd be nice to see more plastic alternatives in our communities rather than the single use plastics we find in everyday life. Try finding better ways of making widely produced products in factories that send toxic smoke into our skies and oil into our oceans. This leads onto the topic of Oil drilling, something so important to our world being oil, to power our cars and other such things. For this very reason it is so expensive, the greed for money drawing humans to take to the seas and drill into the earth underwater in desperate search of oil. In doing so the oil leaks out into the ocean and stretches out for miles, killing any birds and every spec of ocean life, all for our power companies and vehicles fuel. How would you feel to never be able to swim in the ocean again as its too deeply polluted in the rapid search for sources of oil? To aid in this governments should invest in the producing of electric vehicles and ban drilling in the oceans for oil, search for alternatives.
What would you change about the government if you had the chance?

Leadership - Alexander Hamilton
What Makes A Leader? - Alexander Hamilton
For Social Studies it was required we completed a paragraph on someone that we viewed as a leader and had the characteristics and qualities of one. We each researched on great leaders and I chose Alexander Hamilton for mine - Not only was Alexander Hamilton a statesman, politician, legal scholar, military commander, lawyer, banker, economist and one of the founding fathers of the united states but he was a good leader and displayed the following qualities in leadership. He was charismatic, confident and outgoing which led him to forming close friendships with others and develop a following of people. (Helping him influence people).
Alexander worked hard to get to where he was, he didn't use loopholes or cheat to get to his highest points (Conscientiousness).
He was ambitious, he knew exactly who he wanted to be and what he wanted to accomplish in life and didn't get too ambitious. He was a very honest man, as proven by how people that knew him or were close with him often said the same things, which of course included; honesty.
He worked for the good of his nation and made many compromises and sacrifices for his work to ensure he bettered the united states.
-This is why I feel Alexander Hamilton was a good leader

Social Studies - Leadership and Government
Throughout NZ lock down we have begun our online classes with almost all of our teachers, so this is what we have been doing for Social Studies.
Our newest topic that has been given to us has been about 'Leadership and Government.' We were required to complete 4 tasks about what we knew and understood regarding these types of topics.
Some of the questions included, What makes a leader? How does government work (Or the system of government)? What is local government and why is it important? And a couple of others.
I found it most interesting to write about what makes a leader and who we think of as a leader because there were many people I could think of.
